PLANT: Terrestrial tuberous herb.
Slender. To 15cm high. Stem covered in short hairs.

LEAVES: Single leaf, long and thin, dark green to reddish-green, covered in hairs.

FLOWERS: 1 or 2, though usually only one. 1 - 1.5cm across. White, pink, mauve or red in colour. Centre of labellum with 2 rows of yellow tipped calli. Labellum side-lobes striped with dark pink bars. Labellum mid-lobe broadly-triangular, orange and sharply curled backward. Labellum mid-lobe often with a large orange callus on either side.

FLOWERING TIME: August - October.

HABITAT: Scrubland. Mainly beneath Kanuka and Manuka.

CONSERVATION STATUS: At Risk - Naturally Uncommon.

NOTES: Once known as Caladenia carnea var. exigua.
