PLANT: Terrestrial tuberous herb.
To approx 25mm high.

LEAVES: Single, sessile, cupped to begin with. Approx 12mm long x 11mm wide, oval-orbicular, concave at the ovary, minutely apiculate, green on top, pearly beneath with inset maroon glands dotted around the margin.

FLOWER: Solitary. Dorsal sepal 18mm long, 5mm wide at centre, narrow and concave at the base, curling convexly over the labellum. Labellum deep maroon with an irregular translucent chevron to the tip. Laterals sepals to 30mm long, upright.

FLOWERING TIME: September - October.

HABITAT: Moss and verdure covering muddy slip debris at the foot of sea cliffs, and nearby between Pohutukawa roots just above high tide. Also reported from Destruction Gully and other stream banks near the Manukau harbour.

CONSERVATION STATUS: Threatened. Nationally Critical.
