PLANT: To 40cm high. Stem erect, tubular.

LEAVES: Single. Rush-like. Wraps around the stem, usually about the same height as the flower stem.

FLOWERS: Raceme of 5 to 20 flowers. Each 5 - 8mm in length. Colour highly variable, usually reddish-brown to yellow-green. Laterals sepals joined together with blunt tips. Labellum similar in length to lateral sepals. Column wings as long or longer than the anther.

FLOWERING TIME: December - January.

HABITAT: High country tussock, grassland, and sub-alpine herb-fields.

CONSERVATION STATUS: Not Recorded.

NOTES: Distinguished from Prasophyllum colensoi by the column wings being as long or longer than the anther. In P colensoi the column wings are half the length of the anther. Records are few, but probably widespread throughout the high country. The status of this species is unclear.
