PLANT: Terrestrial tuberous herb.
Up to 30cm tall. Stem often reddish.

LEAVES: Usually 3 - 6. Up to 15cm in length. Grassy, spreading widely from the stem, sometimes horizontal.

FLOWER: Single. 2 - 3cm high. Green with translucent white stripes. Base of the flower broader than the top. Dorsal sepal long with the tip usually arched upwards. Petals much shorter than the dorsal sepal. Lateral sepals diverge widely at the sinus. Labellum yellow-green with a raised reddish or brown midrib. Labellum tip twisted to the right. Stigma narrow oblong.

FLOWERING TIME: July - October.

HABITAT: Kauri forests only.

CONSERVATION STATUS: Not Threatened. Locally common.

NOTES: Once known as Pterostylis graminea var rubricaulis.
